#maintenanceMonday - Hauling Rocks! Sometimes that #maintenanceMonday - Hauling Rocks! Sometimes that's what it takes to build rock structures on the #arizonatrail. ⚒️ A location along Passage 7 of the #AZT had been experiencing erosion and worsening head-cutting over the years. It was only a matter of time before a heavy rain event compromised and damaged the trail. The solution was simple: a rock retaining wall to reinforce and protect the trail. The challenge: no larger rocks nearby. 😎 ATA staff and Passage 7B volunteer segment steward spent one day using a tracked power carrier to transport several tons of rocks from alongside the trail, and one day building a 4-tier rock wall and rip-rap structure to minimize future erosion and reinforce the trail for the long haul. 🌵 Ancestral lands of Tohono O'odham and Hohokam

⚒️ #MaintenanceMonday! If you've ever been on ⚒️ #MaintenanceMonday! If you've ever been on Passage 15 on the #arizonatrail in the Tortilla Mountains, you may remember traversing an old, deteriorating wood bridge just north of Freeman Road. Well not anymore! This circa 1990s bridge had been exposed to the extreme desert elements for nearly 30 years and had become a safety issue for trail users. It needed to go! ATA staff and volunteer trail steward completed the bridge removal project and constructed a minor reroute within the trail corridor to traverse the drainage crossing. The old trail alignment was abandoned and restored. This improvement now provides trail users a seamless, safe and sustainable route across this drainage. 🌵 Ancestral Lands of the Tohono O'Odham & Hohokam
