Contact Your Representatives to Support House Bill 2789
House Bill 2789 (Arizona Trail Fund) is being voted on by the State Legislature, and we are asking you to contact your representatives and ask them to support this bill in the House this week! It will be heard by the Senate shortly thereafter.
This bill would expand use of the Arizona Trail State Fund beyond trail construction and maintenance to include water source development, gates, signs, and improved public access. For every dollar the State of Arizona commits to the Arizona Trail Fund, the ATA matches it at least 3 to 1 through private donations, federal grants, and volunteer labor. Recent impacts from wildfires, flooding, erosion and drought make this funding more important than ever before!
We will also be advocating for a $250,000 annual appropriation into the Arizona Trail Fund through the state’s budget process. PLEASE ask your state representatives to include $250,000 in the budget for fiscal year 2023.
Click here to find the contact information for your state representatives. They seldom hear from constituents, so this is a great opportunity to reach out to them on a very non-contentious issue. When contacting representatives, here are a few things to include:
- why the Arizona Trail is important to you (share your story!)
- ask them to vote in support of House Bill 2789
- ask them to support a $250,000 appropriation into the Arizona Trail Fund
- thank them for their service to the state of Arizona
Please help us advocate for this important state funding to support the AZT — a State Scenic Trail and National Scenic Trail!
