💧#WaterisLife, and on the #ArizonaTrail, H2O is th 💧#WaterisLife, and on the #ArizonaTrail, H2O is the most important natural resource between Mexico and Utah. That's why the #ArizonaTrailAssociation invests a portion of our Trail Operations budget into protecting, improving and supplementing water sources along the 800-mile trail.

This includes installation of 24 bear boxes for trail angels to cache water; 9 spring restoration projects where we brought natural springs back to life; and 3 remote rainwater collectors to provide reliable water where natural sources don't exist. As the Southwest continues along its warming and drying trend, we will continue to prioritize water resources along the AZT.

As the temperatures spike, think about how valuable a gallon of fresh water is when you're dehydrated and in the middle of the desert, and give generously today. During our Spring Fundraiser, we are prioritizing water spruce development along the #AZT. With your generosity, we can continue to support this important part of our mission. The dollars you donate may literally save the lives of parched hikers and riders.

Wildfires are part of the natural cycle. And every Wildfires are part of the natural cycle. And every year, fires scorch the #ArizonaTrail. Sometimes it’s a beneficial burn that contributes to forest health, and other times it’s a high-intensity blaze that consumes every living thing in its path. Beyond just the fire’s impacts, the resources that go into wildland firefighting also impact the trail, including bulldozers scraping fire lines and air tankers dropping fire retardant. Once the smoke clears, #ArizonaTrailAssociation staff are often the first ones on the ground to assess the conditions and make recommendations for rehabilitation.

#Wildfire recovery is a long process that starts with emergency stabilization of the trail tread, sign replacement, and deadfall removal. Then comes hiring conservation corps with chainsaws to remove hazard trees – the standing dead snags that could fall on the trail (and trail users) whenever the wind blows. After that, we organize volunteer events to get more boots on the ground, and more individuals assisting with restoration of the trail, water sources, and the landscape itself. When the fire’s impacts are so severe, we reroute the trail through healthy forest nearby.

In 2025, we saw five major wildfires close 144 miles of trail and burn 37 miles of the #ArizonaNationalScenicTrail. This includes the #DragonBravoFire that incinerated the North Rim Lodge and led to a long-term closure of trails within #GrandCanyonNationalPark.

Your donations directly support our #wildfirerehabilitation efforts statewide. We have a lot of work to do to make the Arizona Trail a safe and continuous path again. Please donate generously today @ 🔗 in bio
