IN MEMORIAM: MATTHEW LARA

Matthew Ryan Lara, a devoted father and passionate outdoorsman, passed away tragically on December 13, 2023, at the age of 31. His life was defined by his deep connection to nature, particularly the breathtaking trails of Arizona, where he found peace, inspiration, and joy.

Though Matthew was never able to take his 5-year-old son hiking with him, his hope to share his love of the outdoors with his child was profound. Among his belongings, we discovered an unmailed postcard from the Grand Canyon addressed to his son. In it, Matthew wrote of his dream to one day walk those trails together and introduce his son to the natural wonders he cherished so deeply.

Matthew’s passion for hiking was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and his ability to find beauty in life’s simplest moments. He loved the sense of freedom and connection that came with every step on the trail, a joy that he hoped to pass on to his son.

This memorial is written by his family, who carry his memory with them on every path they walk. Though his journey was tragically cut short, his dream lives on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the trails he so deeply admired.

Rest easy, Matthew. Your spirit continues to inspire us to find joy and peace in the great outdoors.
