A third remote rainwater collector was recently installed along the Arizona Trail. The new installation will allow visitors and wildlife a chance to access the water which is located in Redington Pass.

According to the U.S. Forest Service – Coronado National Forest, the Arizona Trail Association installed and designed the remote rainwater collector in the arid segment of the trail.

The rainwater can be accessed through a spigot located on the side of the collector. There is also a trough used for overflow which supports wildlife in the area. Visitors wishing to get some of the rainwater are advised to purify it before use, and only take what is needed.

Officials said outdoor enthusiasts can benefit from the steel structure which contains a 1,500-gallon poly tank. The tanks fills with water during the winter which supports visitors during the spring, before it refills with monsoon storms in the summer for use in the fall.

The U.S. Forest Service – Coronado National Forest thanked the HDR Foundation, Santa Catalina Ranger District, Scott Lonergan, Arizona Trail Association, and CREEDBILT for making the project possible.
