Arizona’s public lands connect us to nature and Arizona’s public lands connect us to nature and to each other. Thank you Congressman Juan Ciscomani for co-sponsoring the Public Lands in Public Hands Act and showing leadership in keeping our trails accessible for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.

Public Lands Alert! On Wednesday, September 17, U. Public Lands Alert! On Wednesday, September 17, U.S. Representative Paul Gosar introduced a bill that would abolish the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of Grand Canyon National Monument near Grand Canyon National Park. This is a direct attack on America’s public lands and the Arizona National Scenic Trail. Please join us today in opposing this dangerous legislation.

Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni National Monument was designated in 2023, led by the Grand Canyon Tribal Coalition with support from a diverse coalition of organizations, the City of Flagstaff, and Coconino County. The Arizona Trail Association was heavily involved in this effort since 41 miles of the AZT pass through the national monument, and increased protections support our mission and vision while protecting trail users, wildlife and water sources from future uranium mining. The national monument preserves our precious land, water, and air while allowing activities like recreation, hunting, grazing and other uses on lands managed by the Kaibab National Forest and Bureau of Land Management in northern Arizona.

Congressman Gosar’s H.R. 5392, inappropriately named the “the Northern Arizona Protection Act,” conflicts with 89% of Western voters who feel that existing national monument designations should be kept in place rather than reversed (source: 2025 State of the Rockies Conservation in the West Poll). Additionally, 80% of Arizona voters support Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni National Monument (including 68% of Republicans, 81% of Independents, and 91% of Democrats).

We are asking you to please reach out to your representatives in Congress to tell them you are opposed to this legislation, and urge them not to support it. If you don’t know who represents you in Congress, find your representative here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
