Last Saturday’s #ArizonaPublicLandsDay Hike was a Last Saturday’s #ArizonaPublicLandsDay Hike was a wonderful reminder of how special our public lands are. Thank you to everyone who joined the Arizona Trail Association and the @azwildlifefed for a beautiful day on the #ArizonaTrail in Flagstaff!

Special thanks to Clay for leading the hike and sharing some of the ways to connect with nature on the trail. From stopping to smell the sweet, butterscotch scent of old ponderosa pines to spotting local birds along the way, it was a great reminder that slowing down and engaging our senses can make time outdoors even more meaningful.

We’re grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate and enjoy our public lands together. There’s nothing better than getting outside, exploring the Arizona Trail, and appreciating the landscapes that make Arizona so special.

Today is #ArizonaGivesDay — a chance to invest in Today is #ArizonaGivesDay — a chance to invest in the places that make Arizona special. 🌵🌲
One of those places is the Arizona Trail — an 800-mile pathway that connects deserts, mountains, forests, and communities across our state. It’s a place where people find adventure, solitude, wildlife, and a deeper connection to Arizona’s landscapes.

The #ArizonaTrailAssociation works year-round to build, maintain, and protect this National Scenic Trail so that everyone can experience it. From youth programs like @aztsos and @aztgeargirls to our @aztrailvets program, our work keeps this national treasure open and thriving.

If the #ArizonaTrail has inspired you — through hiking, riding, running, volunteering, or simply knowing it’s there — today is a great day to give back. Your support helps ensure this trail remains wild, accessible, and protected for future generations.

Today is #ArizonaPublicLandsDay! Arizona is home t Today is #ArizonaPublicLandsDay!
Arizona is home to over 30 million acres of public land, which accounts for nearly 50% of all #Arizona land. These lands are open to the American public for outdoor recreation while also providing natural areas for our wildlife and native plant species. Arizonans regularly hike, hunt, fish, kayak, and bike through these lands — their importance for our connection to the great outdoors cannot be overstated.

#Publiclands are areas of land and water that are owned collectively by citizens and managed by government agencies. These lands include everything from city, state, and national parks to forest lands, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands, National Monuments, and everything in between.

We hope you get out today to enjoy your public lands!

We are excited to share the news that we anticipat We are excited to share the news that we anticipate being able to reopen the AZT within the Dragon Bravo burn scar on the North Rim of Grand Canyon by May 15th. Our friends at Grand Canyon National Park have been hard at work repairing and stabilizing the tread within the inner canyon between the North Kaibab Trailhead and Supai Tunnel.

The ATA is planning a variety of trail work events in May and June to remove deadfall and repair trail between the North Kaibab Trailhead and the Kaibab Plateau Trailhead near the National Park/National Forest boundary. Check out our VOLUNTEER page @ link in our bio

Here are some important updates for thru-hikers and others who plan to be on the AZT on the Kaibab Plateau this season:

💧Water
• No water will be available at Supai Tunnel or the North Kaibab TH. Northbound trail users will need to carry water from Manzanita Creek (AZT mile 715) up and out of the canyon to the next reliable water source.
• ATA is working to provide a temporary water source at Lindberg Hill (AZT mile 726) but that has not yet been approved.
• Expect water shortages across the Kaibab Plateau! Day users and segment hikers should plan to bring all they need to remain self-sufficient, and check the FarOut app to learn about water reliability at natural sources.

⛺️Thru-Hiker Camping
• There is no camping at the North Rim Campground, but that is expected to change this summer.
• Walk-up permits for overnight camping at Cottonwood & Bright Angel Campgrounds are available for AZT Thru-Hikers at the North Rim & South Rim Backcountry Offices.

🐴 Equestrians: Equines are prohibited on the North Kaibab Trail between the North Kaibab Trailhead and Supai Tunnel for now. Additional trail stabilization is needed before equestrians are allowed to use the trail within the burn zone. Your patience is appreciated.

✋ It's going to take a village to safely and successfully reopen the AZT within 25.5 miles of fire-damaged landscape. Please join us for trail work parties and contribute generously to our fire recovery efforts by donating online @ link in our bio
Check out this new report from the Grand Canyon In Check out this new report from the Grand Canyon Institute that reveals the hidden price tag of federal land transfers in Arizona, a plan some members of our state legislature have been championing.

A takeover of these lands would see Arizona footing the bill for major expenses, including wildfire suppression, forest management, BLM operations, deferred maintenance, and payments that currently support counties.

The report estimates:
- $175 million annually for wildland fire costs
- $470 million annually for forest management and fire mitigation
- $106 million annually for BLM expenditures
- $23 million annually for deferred maintenance reduction
