AZT VETS 'Spring' Into Action on the Gila River!
Join the AZT VETS (Veteran Engagement & Trail Stewardship) Program, with support from the Pinal County Open Space and Trails Department and the Bureau of Land Management, as we kick off the 2025 season by improving the trail corridor on Passage 15B of the Arizona National Scenic Trail north of the town of Kearny!
Event Schedule:
Thursday, February 20:Â Meet near the Kelvin Bridge off Florence-Kelvin Highway. Volunteers will set up shelters, followed by a meet-and-greet, a homemade dinner, and a fireside safety briefing.
Friday & Saturday, February 21 - 22: Enjoy breakfast at camp, followed by a quick tool and trail construction class. We’ll work on the trail, with lunch provided on-site, and conclude the day with dinner back at camp.
Sunday, February 23: After breakfast, we’ll continue trail work for 2-4 hours (weather permitting), gather for feedback, and wrap up with an early afternoon departure.
Details:
Most meals are provided at no extra cost to participants. Pre-registration is required, and we welcome all ages and abilities. However, please remember that trail work may involve hiking several miles and engaging in moderate to strenuous physical labor. Registration is limited to 16 volunteers, so sign up today!
This opportunity is for veterans only. It provides a space for service members to connect, share experiences, and create new memories while working together on the Arizona National Scenic Trail.
