Grand Canyon North Rim to partially reopen this year

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is set for a phased reopening this year after a devastating wildfire in 2025.
Authorities closed the North Rim last year as the Dragon Bravo Fire destroyed about 145,000 acres, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge.
Grand Canyon National Park officials announced Wednesday that they will take an “adaptive approach” to the seasonal reopening of the North Rim. This method allows them to evaluate any potential impacts from winter weather after the Dragon Bravo Fire was fully extinguished.
The North Kaibab Trail and portions of the Arizona Trail are currently closed for “public safety concerns” due to the Dragon Bravo Fire.
Popular spots will reopen on May 15, weather permitting. That includes the North Kaibab Trail.
“We will open what we can, where we can, when we can,” a statement from park officials said, in order to keep visitors and resources safe.
Authorities say more details about the North Rim’s reopening in 2026 will be provided by April 1.
Park visitors are asked to check for the latest updates on the Grand Canyon National Park website.
