Arizona Trail Association Opposes Border Wall Construction

The Arizona Trail Association is speaking out against a border wall project that it says would “significantly impact the Southern Terminus of the Arizona National Scenic Trail, transform the landscape and its visual resources, and forever alter the Arizona Trail experience.”

The federal Customs and Border Protection agency plans to build 30-foot-tall steel barriers through the Huachuca Mountains within Coronado National Memorial, part of 74 miles of proposed barrier construction on the Arizona-Mexico border. Read the agency’s plans here.

“The Southern Terminus of the Arizona National Scenic Trail is one of the most significant locations along the entire 800-mile trail,” ATA Executive Director Matthew Nelson said in a statement here. “This is where the Arizona Trail begins, and where the dream of the Arizona Trail was born over 30 years ago.”
