It’s April 2, and a lone horse and rider stand at the Arizona Trail where it starts in Cochise County at the border with Mexico. The rider pauses to gaze at a sign marking the trail’s southernmost point before snapping a quick photo. She then turns the horse and the two tackle a steep, rocky climb that extends northwest as the trail travels through the Coronado National Memorial southwest of Sierra Vista.
