GREAT NEWS to share from Washington DC: Thanks to GREAT NEWS to share from Washington DC: Thanks to supporters like you who contacted members of Congress, an amendment within the federal budget that would have sold off millions of acres land that belongs to all Americans has been removed. By reaching out to your representatives and telling them how important National Forests and BLM lands are to you, we were able to keep public lands in public lands — not sold to the highest bidder. THANK YOU for your support and advocacy on this important issue. We anticipate other attacks on public lands in the future, and will keep you informed about what you can do to help protect the Arizona Trail and the precious lands that belong to us all.
In early June 2025, the #ArizonaTrailAssociation h In early June 2025, the #ArizonaTrailAssociation hosted a multi-day sawyer event on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, bringing together volunteer trail stewards, trail crew leaders, and agency partners for crosscut saw training and removing fallen trees from the #ArizonaTrail. Participants camped together, built their skills through hands-on instruction, and worked in teams to clear over 100 trees from the #AZT—removing all trees on the trail from the North Rim to the Utah border. Thanks to this collaborative effort, we strengthened our stewardship community, improved conditions for all trail users, and built lasting partnerships with public land managers. We extend our sincere thanks to @grandcanyonnps for their coordination and campsite support, and to the @u.s.forestservice for leading the crosscut saw evaluation course and helping grow our trail work capacity. At a time when the work of federal land agencies is increasingly under threat, we are deeply grateful for the dedicated professionals who continue to protect, manage, and support access to our nation’s beloved public lands.
2026 PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS TO NATIONAL TRAILS: WHAT 2026 PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS TO NATIONAL TRAILS: WHAT'S AT RISK... > The National Park Service will face a $900 million funding cut to National Park Service Operations > BLM funding for National Trails reduced to $0 from $11 million - overall 74% cut to national Monuments, National Conservation Areas, Wilderness and Wilderness Study Areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, and National Scenic and Historic Trails > The Forest Service will face trail funding cuts of 60% for maintenance > Drastically reducing critical Land and Water Conservation Funds promised to the American people that are essential for protecting and completing the national trails system What Does This Mean? These cuts will lead to: > Increased staffing cuts at our already under-staffed land management agencies > Limited agency resources and increased roadblocks for nonprofit partners to effectively build, maintain, and interpret the trails > Delays for critical maintenance projects that will increase the deferred maintenance backlog > Negatively impacting the American public’s visitor experience and recreational enjoyment of trails What can you do? Amplify. > Spread the word! Tell your friends and family how the proposed budget will impact the National Trails System and public lands. We are excited to share the successful outcome of We are excited to share the successful outcome of the recent project to install a total of eight rollovers in the #Flagstaff area along the #ArizonaTrail! Over the course of three days, the @aztrailvets Program installed all 8 rollovers between #WalnutCanyonNationalMonument north to the Picture Canyon area (#AZT Passages 31C and 32A). While we were met with the expected challenges of getting these in the ground, everything went seamlessly. Special thanks to: - The Faus Family for generously providing funding for the rollovers - @coconinocounty staff for assistance with planning and approvals - Coconino National Forest staff for assistance with planning, logistics and approvals - @nationalparkservice staff for assistance with rollover storage, camping arrangements and event support - ATA Veterans Program, ATA volunteer stewards and ATA staff for project implementation - special interest metalwErks for fabrication and transportation of rollovers We are incredibly thankful to everyone involved with the planning and installation of these rollovers. This was a team effort and we could not have done it without all of your support!
Congress is trying to sell our public land. NOW is Congress is trying to sell our public land. NOW is the time for you to reach out to your Senators and tell them our heritage is not for sale. There is language within the Senate Budget Reconciliation bill that mandates the sale of over 3 million acres of public lands in 11 states across the West, including Arizona. It also forces more oil and gas leasing, expedites road construction through environmentally sensitive areas, requires mass timber sales in national forests, and other bad news. This map shows the lands eligible for sale in Arizona, and around the Arizona Trail, under this disastrous proposal.
