Remote Trail Maintenance & Monitoring Task Force
Planning an adventure on the Arizona Trail? Want to help with minor trail maintenance and monitoring along the way? Then join the Remote Trail Maintenance Task Force!
Responding to requests from numerous thru-hikers and riders who want to “give back” while they’re out there on the most remote portions of the Arizona Trail, we’ve developed a simple way for folks to trim back the encroaching acacia, remove problematic tree limbs, and help keep the Arizona Trail corridor clear. Encroaching vegetation grows back with a vengeance every year and every helping hand matters!
To participate in this Task Force we recommend using lightweight loppers, handsaws and/or pruning shears. For brushing best practices along the AZT please review our Desert Brushing Techniques and Forest Brushing Techniques videos along with our Trail Brushing Guide pdf. We also recommend consulting our Guide To Cultural Resources to help you identify, document and report any artifacts you may find while hiking or working on the trail. To report trail conditions or hazards that are beyond the scope of your time or experience please complete our Trail Conditions Form. Lastly, keep track of the time you spent on trail maintenance and when you’re back to “civilization” and wifi, please take a moment to Log Your Volunteer Hours. Logging your Volunteer Hours is critical for our funding and reporting efforts.
Happy Trails and Thank You for giving back to the AZT!
