Tonto National Forest Announces Stage II Fire Restrictions

Beginning May 1, the Tonto National Forest will enter Stage II Fire Restrictions. The following are prohibited on lands, roads, and trails in the Forest:

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building
  • Welding or operating any acetylene or other torch with an open area
  • Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun (legal hunting is exempt)
  • Operating a chainsaw or other equipment operated by an internal combustion engine

This order will remain in effect until further notice. A violation of these restrictions may carry a fine of up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
