Wildfires Impact 93 Miles of the Arizona Trail in 2024

A recent analysis of wildfire impacts to the Arizona National Scenic Trail revealed a total of 93 miles of trail were closed in 2024, and 36 miles of trail were physically scorched. The ATA is in the process of conducting post-burn conditions assessments to determine safety and immediate stabilization needs.

The good news is that 2024 was a moderate wildfire year in Arizona without any significant conflagrations. Currently, nearly all of the Arizona Trail is open within the burn scars detailed on the Wildfire Map. The one exception remains the West Fire along the Highline Passage, but at 90% containment, we are hopeful the AZT will be safe and open again soon.
