Jody Sixkiller Whitlock
July 14, 1932 - November 17, 1996 Jody Sixkiller Whitlock was born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas, but she called Arizona her home for more than 30 years. A friend of trail riders for years, Jody hosted long-distance horseback riders at her Old Coyote Springs Ranch near Prescott for many wonderful evenings full of music. A former Old Time Fiddle Contest champion, Jody played many different instruments and had her own band. We ran into Jody on the Arizona Trail at the Patagonia dedication of the Santa Rita and Canelo Hills Passages and asked her about writing a song about the Arizona Trail. The song The Arizona Trail was the result. The Arizona Trail Association is pleased that it could honor this legendary lady as its Mascot. A portion of the Arizona Trail in the Patagonia area will be dedicated to Jody's memory. |
