Wood Fire Forces Closure of Arizona Trail South of Superior

The Wood Fire is a small lightning-caused fire that started on September 3 and has grown to 6,500 acres. It is mostly within the burn scar of the Telegraph Fire southwest of the town of Superior. In the interest of public safety, the Arizona Trail is closed south of US Hwy 60. There is currently no detour in place, and everyone is asked to avoid the area until the fire is under control and the AZT is considered to be safe to visit again.

This closure impacts 12.5 miles of the AZT, from the BLM/Tonto National Forest boundary to Hwy 60. When using the FarOut app, this is mile 287.9 – 300.4. This is the entirety of the Alamo Canyon Passage and includes the popular Picketpost Trailhead.
