West Fire Forces Closure of AZT & Highline Trail Near Pine

The West Fire is a small lightning-caused fire that started near Geronimo Camp and the Highline Trail/Arizona Trail. The fire is going to be managed for maximum resource benefit, not suppressed, and a closure order for the Tonto National Forest between the town of Pine and Washington Park is now in place. This closure will impact 21.5 miles of the AZT, from Pine Trailhead to Washington Park Trailhead. When using the FarOut app, this is mile 456.7 – 478.2. This is the entirety of the Highline Passage and includes the Highline National Historic Trail and the Arizona National Scenic Trail.

FR 64 (Control Road – south of the AZT) and FR 300 (Rim Road – north of the AZT) are being used as containment buffers/fire lines. These Forest Roads are closed to vehicle traffic and pedestrian/mountain bike traffic, and will only be open to fire operations only.
