We’ve Come a Long Way Friends!

On April 19th. 2018, 18 students from Peaks School traveled to the Flagstaff Loop Trail near Woody Mountain Road to help complete a new alignment and improve existing tread.

This day with this group was so incredibly significant. When we first started working with this class they balked a the idea of eating lunch sitting in the dirt and were horrified at the thought that trails do not have modern bathroom facilities. On this day, not only was dirt on faces accepted as normal, insects and grubs from the dirt were viewed with interest rather than disgust and hard effort moving logs, working as a team, and digging out grass was welcomed with determination.

It was an amazing day and an incredible metric to see how far these students had come in their comfort with the outdoors and knowledge of how to “be” out there.
